Halibut Fishing

Water:
Salt
Location:
Ucluelet

May to September

We fish Halibut from May to September in the offshore waters of Ucluelet. This area produces large numbers of chicken Halibut averaging 10 to 25 pounds, and good numbers of Halibut from 30 to 60 pounds plus. Vast amounts of bait provide prime feeding grounds for young and maturing Halibut. The offshore banks we fish at this time of year are 20 to 25 miles out. We leave first thing in the morning, we pick our weather and we regularly catch limits. The limit for Halibut is 2 per day, with a 2-day possession limit of 3 (per person).

Fishing the offshore waters of Ucluelet we target depths to 300 feet. Tides at this time of the year are strong. We mainly use spreader bars and herring, with 16 to 20 ounces of lead, to keep the bait bouncing on the bottom. We use only top quality Halibut rods and reels. We understand the importance of cooling your catch; our boats have large cooler capacity with plenty of ice to keep your Halibut cold. We clean, filet and bag your catch for you; ready for transport.
